Anyone who knows or has followed me for a while knows that my favorite current wrestler of the last decade is Seth Rollins. I think he’s got the mic skills and in-ring acuity to be literally the top guy in the business. I think he’s only limited by the ability of his opponents-for example, during his most recent title run, he did a lot of work with Baron Corbin, who I think we can all agree, is no Bret Hart. When Seth works with someone at his level like Daniel Bryan or AJ Styles, he can pick up the pace. I’d love to see him against Adam Cole at some point, and of course I’d love to see him against Kenny Omega (which looks less likely these days). Instead, at Summerslam this year, Seth is against this guy: The tall one, not the diminutive legend on the left. Dominik’s storyline against Rollins has been lackluster, he has no ring experience, and he has not proven to be a prodigy physically or in his promos. Of course we know being a street fight, this match will be all hands on deck-Rey, Murphy, and maybe even Alastair Black will get involved, and we will see a lot of kendo stick action. I had a fantasy booking idea, right after the contract signing where Dominik took a terrible beating (I won’t add the picture of his wounds, you’ve seen it or you can look it up). We could have had a satellite interview, maybe a pretaped segment from home with Michael Cole on the other side. Doctors say Dominik can’t compete because of his injuries—Rey isn’t clear because of the eyes! However, Seth has a signed contract with Dominik for Summerslam, so WWE is going to go out of their way to honor the contract- there’s another Dominik floating around out there who’s been rumored to appear on Raw sometime soon: If you’re not familiar with Dominik Dijakovitch’s work, look for some of his matches (especially against Keith Lee) from his Evolve days. He’s big, athletic, and can wrestle, and would be a credible threat to Rollins. A surprise Summerslam match against Rollins would be a quick rocket to stardom in a company that needs new stars.
I’m not saying this will happen on Sunday... it was just a thought I had (they spell their names exactly the same way, as opposed to Dominic). But it would be an exciting twist, a kind of old-school bait and switch- (“you should’ve read the contract, Seth!”) that could help create some buzz around a new name.
